Amy Price PhD - Outreach activities

It is plain if you pay attention to the news and the world around you that not everyone has an equal chance to succeed. Inequality is intersectional; to fight inequality we must address all sources of discrimination, from racism, sexism, homophobia, and ableism to economic policies that keep the poor impoverished.

We can all do our part to help fix this- whether that's voting, having conversations with people about how to stop inequality and the injustices associated with inequality or donating to causes fighting inequality. Let's work together towards an equitable future for all.

Outreach activities

Mind and Matter 2024

This science discovery day, hosted by the University of St Andrews, was aimed at showcasing research from across the university to children of all ages. Joanna and I showed kids how we can separate colours in leaves and inks using paper chromatography.

Bay Area Scientists Inspiring Students BASIS

I volunteered as part of a team providing free science lessons in elementary school classrooms around the Bay Area in 2022-23. The aim of this program is to provide exciting and hands on science activities to young people. We aimed to inspire students to envision themselves as future scientists.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference EYH

Expanding Your Horizons conferences are designed to introduce 5th-8th grade girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. From fun hands-on workshops, to discussions about careers in STEM and panels where the students can ask scientists anything, this conference encourages girls to take up careers in STEM. I took part in 2022 and 2023 as a workshop and logistics volunteer.

Berkeley Science Review BSR

The Berkeley Science Review is a magazine run by grad students (and occasionally helped by postdocs!) to help make some of the discoveries and work carried out by scientists at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory accessible to a wide audience. I have written and edited for the BSR from 2021-23.
